NuzleafGreen - A PKMNcast Fundraiser

The Introduction

What's up everyoneeeeeee! How was that for an impression of SBJ? What, you tell me you can't really tell because this is only text and reading something can't accurately convey the way someone speaks and therefore could be interpreted differently by every single individual reading this? Well I suppose you're right, but hey that's not why we're here today. No, we are here today to talk about an awesome fundraiser for PKMNcast; a fundraiser in the form of the infamous "Let's Play" titled "NuzleafGreen".

Now, before I go any farther, I'll tell you what this is about. The PKMNcast community, more specifically our man Steve Black Jr. himself, has been going strong for almost two whole years now. "It's Super Effective!" may have started at rather humble beginnings, but has now grown into a strong, independent Podcast from which a wonderful and diverse community has emerged. Steve has gone out of his way to build up a friendly-yet-professional (actually I might not fit that last part too well) staff who all share a love of Pokémon and who are all dedicated to informing and helping others in any way they can.

Pre-Release Run Down

Prerlease week 1 is over and unfortunately I was occupied with other card games. If you played I would love to hear how your games went in the comments below!  However you did or if you’ll be playing this weekend, I’ve got some bomb picks for the cards that will take you to the top of your prerelease next weekend.

In general when drafting a prerelease deck you’re trying to pick the cards that give you the most bang for your play. Pokemon with attacks that have multiple effects besides damage like status conditions or discard effects will be winners. A prerelease deck isn’t just a race for damage. That being said, EX’s will always have a huge play advantage. Just because you didn’t pull an EX, doesn’t mean the tournament is over. Lets look at Carnivine.

PKMN of the Week: Salamence

Something amazing happened this past Thursday.  Something that has never, ever, ever, happened before.  I beat my friend Gabe in a Pokémon battle!  It was a real battle, too - he wasn't going easy on me.  We had gone a few rounds already, I was on my second beer, and I had figured there was no way that I was going to beat his Hydreigon, Zapdos, Archeops, and Starmie team.  What I didn't realize was he had decided to swap out his Starmie for a Cloyster.  What a mistake!  I had finally gotten my Whiscash to stomp Archeops, my Hydreigon somehow beat his Zapdos, and he was just left with just Hydreigon and Cloyster.  Well, if you don't know - I love my Volcarona.  While not my favorite Pokémon of all time, I love using it in battle.  Friends, just a little Bug Buzz from my Volcarona, David Hugs, and Hydreigon was down.  Cloyster came out and before he could set up with Shell Smash - Bug Buzz, Bug Buzz - Boom, Cloyster was down and Will was the winner!

All of this to remind you guys that Bug-types are 1,000 times more awesome than Dark-types and that the Pokémon this week is . . . Genesect!

Saturday Sketch

SATURDAY, SATURDAY, SATURDAY!

What day is it everyone?

SATURDAY!

Meaning time for another Saturday Sketch!

This week as some of you may have seen already, there has been a large gallery that has appeared on the interwebs.

This gallery consists of the First Generation’s 151 Pokémon.

The gallery is titled “The Pokémon Battle Royale” and can be found on Tumblr!

So a little information about this gallery...

  • ·        151 Pokémon in the gallery
  • ·        151 Artists

The description on Tumblr:

“151 artists have each selected and created original works of art inspired by each of the original 151 Pokémon. From Bulbasaur to Mew, each Pokémon is represented and injected with the artists’ own aesthetic, style, and creativity, exploring just what made those little Pokémon so interesting and fun to catch.

The Pokémon Battle Royale was a curated art show curated by Alyssa Nassner (@smalltalk) and Bryan Ische (@ishyyyyy) in the spring of 2012.”

So now that you know about this gallery let’s take a look at some of the works contained in this gallery of amazingness.

So you like Pokémon and the Simpsons huh?

Well you may perhaps like this crossover.

Homer J. “Dratini” Simpson.

In all honesty this kind of seems right...

Oh that Crazy Hypno, what will he do next?

Actually… let’s not get into what he’s possibly going to do next...

MOVING ON!

After seeing this one…  I don’t think I will ever see Clefairy the same again.

As a matter of fact she looks very happy to see you!

“#35 Clefairy by Mikey McCollor

Pidgey ain’t picking on Weedle for much longer! Forget evolution! This Weedle is not messing around, it will Body Slam you! Perhaps actually one day it will break the fourth wall and become the most powerful bug in its class!

“#13 Weedle by Tyson Hesse

Well that’s it for this week’s Saturday Sketch (‘s)!

Hope you enjoyed taking a tiny look at this gallery!

This is truly some outstanding work and you should check out the full thing!

You can even purchase some of the work as prints!

AOTW: Oblivious

Let’s touch briefly on a topic that can seem foreign to many of us that frequent this site and are fans of the noble work of the Pokémon Podcast: love and romance. WAIT WAIT WAIT, KEEP READING. KENNY, STOP SCROLLING. KAY, YOU TOO. GET. NO. GUYS. COME BACK HERE. Ugh. The rest of you still here? Good. Let’s face it, gentlemen, we’re some-teens and twenty-somethings who wax sentimental and intellectual about a video game and trading card game franchise that’s aimed primarily at tweens and children. I’m no Dr. Love, but I imagine that most of the fairer sex doesn’t find this an overtly attractive trait, but that’s also why we find ourselves so enamored with the few of you ladies out there that join in with as much (or more) fervor as we do in our monster-wrangling pastime. That is, when we’re paying attention. Fellas, if you’re like me, you’re horrible at reading signals from the ladies. Comes with the nerd territory, you know? But hey, they say to make your weaknesses into strengths, right? And we can, at least, with our pokémon. This is Ability of the Week: Oblivious!

MOTW - Me First

Guess how this article's gonna start out? I'll give you a second to think. Okay, ready? Hey guys, Kenny here with another edition of MOTW (surprise)! This week we're going to take a look at how it could just very well be in a Pokémon's best interest to be selfish. That's right, we're talking about the move Me First! Me First is a Normal-Type Status-Category move with 20 PP (max 32). It probably goes without saying but, like many other Status-Category moves, it does not have a base power or base accuracy. When a Pokémon uses Me First, it attempts to steal the target's move and use it as its own. Sounds pretty simple, right? Well friends, I must tell you that it's a bit more complicated than it sounds. I'll cover everything though, and soon, you'll be a pro at using this move! First, and most importantly...
