PKMN of the Week: Garchomp

When I go out on the town, which I tend to do on Friday nights, I like to check in to places on Foursquare.  Most of the places I frequent don't have bonuses for the mayor but I like being able to see who else has checked in at the same location and where my friends around the country are at the same time.

Unfortunately, downtown DC has terrible cellular coverage and it can be difficult to get a data connection when you are trying to check in.  This past Friday I was having just that problem, fiddling with my phone trying to check in, when a hand started waving over the screen.

PKMN of the Week: Salamence

Something amazing happened this past Thursday.  Something that has never, ever, ever, happened before.  I beat my friend Gabe in a Pokémon battle!  It was a real battle, too - he wasn't going easy on me.  We had gone a few rounds already, I was on my second beer, and I had figured there was no way that I was going to beat his Hydreigon, Zapdos, Archeops, and Starmie team.  What I didn't realize was he had decided to swap out his Starmie for a Cloyster.  What a mistake!  I had finally gotten my Whiscash to stomp Archeops, my Hydreigon somehow beat his Zapdos, and he was just left with just Hydreigon and Cloyster.  Well, if you don't know - I love my Volcarona.  While not my favorite Pokémon of all time, I love using it in battle.  Friends, just a little Bug Buzz from my Volcarona, David Hugs, and Hydreigon was down.  Cloyster came out and before he could set up with Shell Smash - Bug Buzz, Bug Buzz - Boom, Cloyster was down and Will was the winner!

All of this to remind you guys that Bug-types are 1,000 times more awesome than Dark-types and that the Pokémon this week is . . . Genesect!

AOTW: Skill Link

Thank you for calling Ability of the Week. The editor is currently away from the site, attending Chicago Comic Con, but please leave a message and enjoy the previously written article. Have a nice day.

Double Slap. Fury Swipes. Arm Thrust. What do these moves have in common? Bulbapedia classifies these attacks into a category called “Swipe Moves”, or else “Multi-Hit Moves”. These are those attacks that deal a little bit of damage per hit, but generally hit anywhere from two to five times per turn. Sure, a base damage of 25 doesn’t seem like much, but if you land that elusive fifth hit, your Tail Slap has just dished out 125 damage to your opponent. It’s a classic risk/reward scenario. Well today, we’re taking out the “risk” half, and just keeping the creamy “reward” center. This is Ability of the Week: Skill Link!
