Saturday Sketch

This week’s featured artist goes by the name ~ChelseaRule on deviantART.

The work is named “Evolving in Size”, and it is a very fitful name for the artwork.

The artist did this work on three separate cups, a 12oz, 16oz and a 20oz cup. Each is an evolution of Charmander.

Going from the smallest to a larger size, the cups evolve just like an evolutionary scale.

The Charizard look’s amazing along with the other primary evolutions.

In my opinion they would look great Colored!

I actually found this on deviantART’s front page, and the front page always consists of uploaded now content so I believe it was a rare find.

The unfortunate thing about this artist is that there are no other works like this or any other Pokémon related pieces in their deviations.

That’s it for this week, C-ya all next week.

On the Road to Old Mexico

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I come to you with some bad news. I am currently on a Spring Break trip to good old Old Mexico. And for this reason, there won't be a Thursday article from me today or next week.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Jeez, this David guy couldn't dependably write a weekly article to save his freaking life." And you're probably pretty right in saying that. But anyway, I'll totally, definitely, DEFINITELY be back to write a column every week starting next next Thursday. Hopefully this trip will give me some kind of experience that will be somehow useful in bringing you less crappy writing, but I wouldn't bet on it.

If you're going on a Spring Break vacation as well, be careful and have fun. I'll be back to grace your brain and eye-holes with my writing in a few weeks.

Rare Article: 3 VGC Pokémon to Consider

Last week we talked about specific VGC strategies that might be a tad unorthodox. This week, I'll give those of you who, like myself, do not plan on using any specific unifying strategy three suggestions for Pokémon to use. Spoiler alert: Vanilluxe does make a return. I apologize to the haters out there.

Stating Stats from States

Hey poke-nerds I’d like to start with a grand apology. I’M SORRY THIS ARTICLE IS LATE! See how grand that was? Done. Next, I want to give you some tips based on what I’ve seen and read from last weekends States. The big bad bidoof of the format is definitely Zekrom/Eelektrik. Reporting from Top Cut says 30 of the top four decks across the tournaments were a Zekrom/Eelektrik varying with some techs like Thundurus or Terrakion. Celebi/Mewtwo/Tornadus took 21 of the top four slots followed by my favorite deck. Dur-dur-durant , taking 10 spots.

Two awesome things we can take away from this. First, Mewtwo was not the bomb to the format that everyone thought it would be, more like a small hand grenade. Secondly, with the release of the spring tins the top deck in the format is relatively affordable. That also means you will see a lot of it so lets get into how to beat it.

MOTW: Simple Beam

Hey guys, Kenny here. I'm still not feeling my best, but I figured that I'd still do my duty and write a MOTW article (especially since I didn't write one last week). This week's move... Simple Beam! Kind of a weird move, huh? Anyway, let's get down to business.

Simple Beam is a Normal-Type status-inducing move with 100% accuracy, and 15 PP (which can be maxed out to 24). When used, the target of the attack has their Ability temporarily changed to the "Simple" Ability. A Pokémon with the "Simple" Ability is doubly affected by any stat change. This means that, for example, the move Harden would increase the user's Defense by 2 stages rather than 1, if that same Pokémon were to have the "Simple" Ability.

How can this be put to use? Can it even be put to use at all? Well, of course it can! In Double Battles, you can attack your own Pokémon, right? Say one of your Pokémon were to know Simple Beam, and another Curse and Gyro Ball. By using Simple Beam on your Curse / Gyro Ball Pokémon, you could set up for a killer combo in one turn! That's twice the Attack and Defense boost, and twice the Speed loss. You could also just use it to get rid of an opponent's unwanted Ability. While there aren't a ton of uses for this move, Simple Beam is definitely more than just a throw-away move. Next time you're looking for a unique way to spice up a battle, give this move a try!

Shattered Gemstones Chapter 9: The Appeal

Trust comes with a timer. Anyone who needs anyone has a deadline. It can be as simple as wanting a partner to go on a road trip, or as vast as wanting a significant other before you die. But he who rushed into things may find that the trust he receives is based on a side of himself he was too rushed to notice. Bide your time, hold out hope.

Saturday Sketch

Hello everyone, Welcome to Saturday, SATURDAY, SATURDAY Sketch!

This week I’m back with an Artist Suggestion from @jstinftw.

The artist makes some really creative Pokémon art that can be found on deviantART.

The artist goes by the name of                  *Leashe.

They do some rather creative realistic Pokémon art, and so that is my choice of this week to bring to you.

In the image shown above it is titled IPL Espeon vs Jolteon. The reason I chose this one is because it had a Jolteon in it. “If you didn’t know Jolteon is my forever and always Favorite Pokémon.”

This battle takes place in a Coliseum type arena with the trainers standing on top of the Coliseum rooting their Pokémon on.

To me this looks like a very intense battle.

Jolteon using Thunder!

Espeon using Protect!

Who do you believe will be the Victor!?

Well I hope you all enjoyed the Sketch this week!

And I’m hoping that no one minds but if you didn’t know a few People are doing Let’s Play’s on Livestream. So if you feel like checking them out here are the links!

Rare Article: 3 Alternative VGC Strategies

VGC season is in full swing, as Spring Regionals approach. Perhaps the most common team to see is what has been dubbed in years passed as a "goodstuffs" team. In other words, a team that is made up of the best Pokémon in the metagame, as opposed to a team that subscribes to any particular strategy. Sure, weather is fairly common, but it seems that Zapdos, Hitmontop, Scizor, and Garchomp are on every team.

But what if you want to do something at least a tad gimmicky, if only for the element of surprise? Well, I've got you covered. Here are three VGC strategies that won't be expected, and therefore, hopefully won't be prepared for by your opponent.
