Rare Article: Using Odd Pokémon

Last week we talked about gimmicks, and how to turn one into a legitimate strategy. One section was about using "good" Pokémon to make your strategy work. However, you all know how much we at PKMNcast cherish using rarely used Pokémon, so I'm going to tell you how to make those odd-ball Pokémon into good Pokémon. Cue the silly chapter headings.

MOTW: Explosion

Whats! Up! E-very-bo-dy! This is Pierre (aka Politoedable) for your weekly Move of the Week! It's great to be here in the PKMNCAST universe with all of you guys, discussing one of my favourite aspects of the game: moves. I mean yes, abilities are important, and so are items. But when you think of it, it's the moves that drive the battle onward. Imagine God-almighty Arceus with Cut, Defog, Rock Smash, and Whirlpool. Not so tough now huh? Now of course no one gets that extreme to putting four near-useless HMs on the PKMNGOD, but hey, I’m just trying to prove a point.

So let's get our MotW started! I'd like to begin our epic MoTW journey with a boom. That's right guys, let's talk about EXPLOSION.

Helmet Required, Deck Construction in Progress

The worst way to lose is an early game KO where your deck just doesn’t preform. The Pokemon TCG is a game of chance so maybe, by chance, you don’t draw a single energy or Professor Oak’s new theory in the first three turns and your opponent has fully set up and is picking off easy KO’s. Worse maybe you have only that lone basic and all energy, Slowpoke’s Whimsy Tackle can only do so much. The new Poketools in Noble Victories can help you stall for the extra turn that you need or maybe even a KO without even attacking.

Saturday Sketch

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. I am Tonight’s Entertainment! I only have one question… Where is all the Halloween Pokémon!?

Just in time for Halloween “well a few days early to be exact”, I have come across an image that seems to fit the part!

Here we have the Mouse Pokémon family ready for Halloween.

What I enjoy most about this one is the Pumpkin is actually carved like the Three from the Mouse Family.

There isn’t much information on the artist’s deviantART page, but I believe it was hand drawn, and colored with markers.

The artist’s name is pikabellechu on deviantART.

I am actually rather disappointed that there are not many Pokémon Halloween drawings/images.

If anyone has any knowledge of any please feel free to contact me at PKMNcastSaturdaySketch@gmail.com

Also as always I am glad to take suggestions and requests!

If you’re heading out to go Trick-or-Treating, or to a Halloween party this week, please remember to be safe! Stay away from any Pokémon Poachers, or Hikers in Van’s that offer you candy! It may sound like a joke but seriously be safe and enjoy your night of Fun and Terrors!

Thanks for viewing/reading and I’ll see you all next week!

Rare Article: Gimmicks

The world of competitive Pokémon is an odd one. While there are over six hundred monsters from which to choose, it seems that there are only a few basic strategies, namely walls and sweepers. Because of this, players have tried to do different things, explore the boundaries of the game. A well executed baton pass strategy can rip through an opponent, and a weather combo can be deadly. The same is true of the TCG. That one rogue deck can win a tournament, just because it was unexpected.

We at PKMNcast love that sort of stuff. You know how much we oppose just blindly following the "accepted" ways to play Pokémon. However, not all of these strategies are as successful. Just ask me about my Normal Monotype team and you will understand that all alternative strategies are not very useable. So what is it that distinguishes a legitimate strategy from a gimmick? Why, these three headings, of course!

A Competitive Edge That Cuts Deep

I should preface this article with two things. The first, I don’t actually believe in what I’m about to explain to you but it is something necessary to know. The second being that I believe in good sportsmanship, never sinking to a lower level and having the best possible game between two people. I had posted an article earlier about table ettiquette while playing someone. I strongly encourage you to read that either right now or after finishing this article.
