Breeding 911: The Statistics of Pokémon

Hey there guys, Kenny here again with some more (hopefully) useful breeding information for you all! Not having gotten any questions from anyone, I asked Steve what I should talk about. He suggested talking about the statistics behind Individual Values (IVs for short) in breeding. As most of you know IVs are, essentially, hidden stat bonuses. When a Pokémon is caught, or a Pokémon Egg is laid (yes, they are calculated before the Pokémon actually hatches!) a random number from 0 – 31 is distributed to every stat. These numbers are how many extra points are in said stat. IVs are permanent once the Pokémon is encountered or the Egg is received, and cannot be legally changed under any circumstances.

Hey there everyone! Ever since the early days of the podcast, the guys at PKMNcast have always been 100%-accuracy-or-nothing kind of people. Whenever Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, or Thunder make an appearance in the Featured Team segment, it's always been very common for the hosts to suggest one of the 90 damage 100 accuracy moves as a replacement. As unfortunate as it is, the big-hitting, low accuracy moves are just too risky to be dependable in competitive battles.  But what if I told you that there was a Pokemon that, through use of its ability, was able to bump one of those mega-powerful moves up to 100% accuracy? A few weeks ago, Travis and I co-anchored episode 47 of It’s Super Effective, in which we reviewed SBJ’s pokémon line up for the VGC’s. Taking the reins of the podcast was sprung on us at the last second, so it was a little unnerving for both of us, but fun. We did hit one significant snag, though, and I’m embarrassed to say that it involved an Ability. I learn a lot about passive pokémon powers writing this article every week, but until I write the thing, I remain woefully ignorant of many of them.
