PotW: Galvantula

Hey there everyone! Ever since the early days of the podcast, the guys at PKMNcast have always been 100%-accuracy-or-nothing kind of people. Whenever Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, or Thunder make an appearance in the Featured Team segment, it's always been very common for the hosts to suggest one of the 90 damage 100 accuracy moves as a replacement. As unfortunate as it is, the big-hitting, low accuracy moves are just too risky to be dependable in competitive battles.  But what if I told you that there was a Pokemon that, through use of its ability, was able to bump one of those mega-powerful moves up to 100% accuracy? Well, this week's Pokemon of the Week, Galvantula, can do just that!

That's right, folks. Galvantula with the Compoundeyes ability is the Electric-type special sweeper we've all been waiting for. The EleSpider Pokemon can get you a 100% accuracy Thunder attack without having to set up rain. For those of you living in blissful ignorance, Compoundeyes is an ability that was introduced all the way back in Generation 3 that boosts the accuracy of all moves used by the Pokemon by 30%. While this ability is very nice, it hasn't really been able to be used on a good Pokemon up until Galvantula was released.

A 120 damage Thunder with a STAB, Electric Gem, and 100% accuracy is a scary thing, especially when the Pokemon using it has 108 Speed and 97 Special Attack. I know these stats aren't especially mind-blowing, but this itsy bitsy spider can do some serious damage to your opponent's team. My preferred moveset looks something like this:

Thunder, Substitute, Bug Buzz, Attract (because why not?)

EVs: 252 Sp Atk/252 Spd/4 Whatever

Timid Nature, Electric Gem

With this moveset, you can come in, set up a sub or attract if you'd like, and start wrecking your opponent's pokes with little-to-no downsides. Of course, you're gonna have to watch out for Pokemon that are faster than you, which, while not incredibly common, is likely to happen at some point in Galvantula's battling career.

Well, that's it, folks. The next time you'll hear from me, we'll be celebrating our 1 year anniversary, so I'll make sure to have something special for you guys.
