PKMN of the Week: Poliwhirl

In honor to celebrate our new Poli-Shirt, what better to do so by having this week dedicated to one of the Pokémon that inspired everything! Poliwhirl has always been a popular picking when Pokémon came over to the America's in 1998. Now his swirl is back on our exclusive shirt, and back on the site to kick off our Monday.

It evolves from Poliwag at level 25, and then into either Poliwrath when exposed to a Water Stone or Politoed when traded holding a King's Rock.

Poliwag undergoes a dramatic change when it evolves to Poliwhirl. The most notable difference is that it has become bigger and gained arms with gloved hands while losing its tail. The eyes have moved to the top of its head and it apparently loses its visible mouth. Its nostrils are now visible. Curiously, the swirl on its abdomen as Poliwag reverses when it evolves. The skin on most of Poliwhirl’s body is moist, due to an oily fluid. However, the skin on its belly spiral feels smooth.

• The logo for the Pokémon Center in Tokyo featured Poliwhirl until it was replaced by Piplup in July 2007.

• Poliwhirl is based on a tadpole. The spiral pattern on its belly is supposed to represent how the organs of tadpoles can sometimes be seen through their transparent skin. Its evolution is based on a tadpole's metamorphosis.

Sunday Recap (Nov 29 - Dec 4)

It's been a pretty crazy week. We have a new site, and now you can pre-order our first custom Pokémon shirts. We also dropped a two hour podcast episode, as well as, a new segment on the site called "Concept Corner".
Here is your RECAP -
PKMN of the Week: Miltank - Pokémon of the Week
MOTW: Swift - Weekly Move
We're Back! - News
Saturday Sketch - The... uh... Saturday Sketch

Saturday Sketch

This week we are featuring "Metagross" by Tomiokajiro.

This image is kind of on the old side but was shown to me rather recently. I picked it on the off chance that someone else hadn't seen this yet and beside that it's an amazing picture (:

I love this not only because it's done well but because it's just so amusing! We've got Metagross here trying to get through traffic, its trainer is using its flat head as a sort of office and using Magnemites as a power source! I could stare at this for hours just taking in all of the detail going on in the background as well.

If you could pick one Pokemon to have in real life what would it be? What if you were stuck in traffic like Metagross here or some other situation of annoyance? What would you do?

As I stated on the podcast, I didn't get any submissions this week for the User Feature. If you've got some art you'd like to share or even an image you really enjoy, feel free to send it to Saturdaysketchftw@gmail.com

Hope everyone has had a great week!

Hello, Poli-Shirt!

Finally! After months of talking about exclusive Pokémon Shirts, we finally have some made! You can jump over to our very basic store and pre-order one! All Pre-Orders will ship on December 16th. Right before the holidays. So you can get your shirt in time for Christmas (a good gift). Now these shirts are limited to 100... so in other words... once they are gone, they are gone.

Here is the official description:

The first Official PKMN Podcast Shirt. This is limited to 100. The shirt was inspired by the swirl on Poliwhirl's/Poliwrath's belly. Now you too can have a swirl of awesomeness on your belly.

IMPORTANT: Right now we are taking PRE-ORDERS. Your shirt will ship on Thursday, December 16, 2010. We get full stock on that Wednesday. Be one of the first people to get one!

To take care of this shirt properly, please wash it inside out. Do not put it in the dryer, hang dry preferred.

These shirts have nothing to do with Nintendo and/or the Pokémon Company. All the design work is custom artwork made by Steve Black Jr. © All Rights Reserved.

Thanks to @LLbrettJ for modeling it!

MOTW: Swift

It’s been a while. I know. Thus is life and the holidays/tests/school in general. No excuses so let’s get into it. Normal type moves are interesting types to choose from. Their resistances are unlike any other and there are an interesting set of moves to choose from. One move has been around for quite some time is Swift. Swift is almost unique in the fact that it can hit an opponent in almost any situation, and we’re going to take a look at that in our MOTW today.

Accuracy. One thing that is pretty much a necessity in the field of battle. Almost all important move combinations and strategies...

Pardon Our Dust

Hey Everyone!

I guess some new features of the site went early today. If you haven't noticed our new Pokéball side bar, which follows you down the page. If you get an urge to click that Twitter Ball, it will always be by your side.

I just wanted to say that this has been one tough month to keep content going, but we thank you all for supporting the site and visiting us daily, weekly, or some of you... hourly.

Episode 020 will be going live this week, hopefully your all caught up because we even have plans for 021 to follow pretty shortly after.

I also want to thank everyone that still sends in for Featured Team, don't worry, yours will be posted in the order we get them in at, please don't hesitate to send your Team in if you haven't.

Also, I just got the first official shirt in, and I think we will announce and show tonight at midnight... I mean... if you guys want? Let me know in the comments!

FINALLY, the last thing I want to mention is that the site will be down tonight at around 1AM and most of the morning tomorrow for some changes. Good changes. I apologize that the Video Podcast got pushed back a week or two, but I had to prioritize since this week had some unexpected Bulbasaurs.

With that being said... please stay tuned for more AWESOME to come!
