Rare Article: 3(?) Reasons Why Everyone Should Play Pokémon

If you're a Pokémon fan, this article isn't for you. Not that you wouldn't enjoy it, but just because I'd be preaching to the choir, so to speak. This article is for your friends who don't play Pokémon but should. A while ago, back when SBJ ran Rare Article, he wrote a great article about why everyone should play Pokémon.

In my humble opinion, though, SBJ in 2010 didn't have it all together up in the old noggin, so to speak (just kidding, I <3 SBJ,)because he was missing quite a few important reasons why everyone should play Pokémon. Here are those reasons.

Shattered Gemstones Chapter 10: Ashore

Two brave souls have washed ashore, but the third is still lost at sea. The two on shore don't see where he swims, and so turn to face the island onto which they have washed. But it is not an island paradise, but rather a place devoid of its former beauty. And so the beginning draws near its end, and the truth begins its revelation.

PKMN of the Week: Dragonite

It's very still tonight, very quiet.  The dark is darker than usual and you can feel it as a presence in the room.  You put on a record but even that sounds oddly quiet - too far away.  You are alone and, strangely, your loneliness feels like a companion tonight.

Have you ever been out to sea?  In my youth I was a sailor - I've had the opportunity to sail both the Pacific and Atlantic.  When night falls on the ocean you learn what isolation is.  There is no one around for miles and, even if you knew where they were, how would you get to them?  The winds are still, the skies are clear, and you are staring out into a universe of cold stars.

Listen, though, are you truly alone?  There is life under the water.  You can hear the small waves ripple and splash against the hull - but what is that other noise?  Something deep, groaning, a bass so profound.  Some far off cargo ship plying the ocean on it's way to Europe or Asia?  Could it be something else, an antediluvian moan from an indescribable creature of the depths?

Rare Article: Video Battle

I'm a tad busy this week preparing for MGC this weekend, but I didn't want to leave you folks hanging without a Rare Article, so I thought I'd post a battle video I did with David. You can learn more from a battle than some lousy Rare Article. You know what they say, after all. A battle video is worth a thousand words. I think that's what they say, at least.

App Obtained! - "EV-Gear Free"

Heya guys, Kenny here with a neat app I found for the iPod and iPhone called "EV-Gear Free"! As we all know, EV training can be a bit tough, whether you're new to it or not. Learning how to EV train is hard enough, but keeping track of all of the EVs your current Pokémon can be kind of frusterating. That's where the app comes in; simply input your Pokémon and all of its information (Level, Nature, IVs, any EVs it may have obtained Pokérus stats, and the Brace it's currently holding) and 1... 2... Ta-daa! The app comes up with the stats you should be at!

Furthermore, you can then choose an area you want to train at and keep track of how many IVs you have obtained. Say I have a Pokémon with 0 Sp.Atk EVs, a Power Lens, and Pokérus. Let us then say that I defeated a Litwick. I press the corresponding button on the app, and it's all calculated! It's a little hard to explain, so please check it out yourself!

I really hope you guys get use out of this app. If you like it, make sure to give it a good review!

MOTW: Hurricane

Hey guys, Kenny here! I know I just posted last week's MOTW yesterday, but I figured no one would mind if I still went ahead and wrote another one this week. This time, we will be looking at a powerful Flying-Type move; Hurricane!

Hurricane is a Special-Category Flying-Type move, with a natural PP count of 10 that can be bumped up to a maxumum of 16, 120 Power, and 70% accuracy, and has a 30% chance of confusing the foe (essentially making it a Flying-Type variant of Thunder, but with a chance of inflicting Confusion rather than Paralysis). In one turn, you could potentially severly damage your opponent, confuse them, and then sit back and relax as they end up taking the rest of their own HP out by hitting themselves. Talk about a powerful move!

Now, now, I know what you're thinking; it's a strong move, but...

PKMN of the Week: Cresselia

I am still down here in Austin - the SXSW Music Conference is wrapping up and I will soon be enjoying many hours of much needed sleep.

During SXSW, depending on your point of view, the city of Austin can turn into a nightmare-scape.  All of downtown is closed off and literal hoards of people of all types - punk, country, hip hop, death metal, hipster, frat bros - mix in the streets (something along the lines of those first destruction scenes in Cloverfield).  The bass is turned up so loud in every club it sounds like explosions are going off from miles away.  The air hangs heavy with smoke of all kinds and laser lights project across the buildings overhead.  You can get caught up in the whirlwind of bands to see, take a turn down a wrong street, and stumble into a Harouki Zombi performance.

What balm can aid the troubled mind in such a scenario?  Who will come to your aid, bring you peace, and end the torment of phantasm?
