AOTW: Suction Cups

Hello, trainers! I’m back from my brief sabbatical with a new Ability of the Week. If you missed my post on PokéTalk, I was on vacation with my girlfriend over Valentine’s, then came home to a simply gargantuan amount of hours at my day job, and just couldn’t get around to writing up an article. So I apologize for the unscheduled break, and back to the Ability-learning!

Last time we discussed the most common Ability in the game, Levitate. This week, we’re going to the opposite end of the spectrum, with one of the most obscure Abilities, though not a monster-exclusive like Motor Drive. And appropriately enough, where the last Ability was all about keeping you off the ground, this week is about keeping your feet firmly planted. MOTW: Magical Leaf

Introduced in Gen III, Magical Leaf shares similar characteristics to a couple of other moves that we’ve talked about before. It’s close relative is Aerial Ace, where it will hit your opponent no matter what sort of evasion they have built up, and no matter what your accuracy is sitting at as well. Entire teams and strategies can be built around this one move, and I’m going to try and sum up what it can all do for you, or what it can do TO you in a battle scenario.

PKMN of the Week: Rayquaza

It is notable for its ability to soothe the other members of the Weather trio, when angered. Rayquaza is capable of using various powerful elemental attacks that it shoots from its mouth. Rayquaza can negate the effects of the weather. Since Rayquaza is a Dragon-type Pokémon, it can learn Draco Meteor.

Rayquaza constantly flies around the globe in the ozone layer, stopping and descending only to land on the peak of the Sky Pillar to rest. It is extremely territorial and will attack any intruders of its home. Due to the fact that it can calm the other members of its trio, it can be seen to be considered a leader and calm.

Fun Facts

  • In Pokémon Emerald, Rayquaza appears to use Hyper Voice to calm down Groudon and Kyogre at Sootopolis. Rayquaza couldn't learn...

Pokemon Concept Corner: A retrospective

Well, guys, Black and White are nearly upon us. Since this will be my final article before I start feverishly typing about how awesome everything in the new games is sure to be, however, I thought a retrospective was in order. So, this week in Concept Corner, we're looking back, not at Pokemon, but at their world, and how its developed.
