Too Many Eevees, Not Enough Eevees
Scott Charboneau February 21, 2013Too Many Eevees, Not Enough Eevees,
In honor of Sylveon, I decided to write an article about my first Eevee, my favorite Eevee, and the Eevee I’ve always wanted.
Just this week, Nintendo revealed the newest Gen VI Pokémon: Sylveon, the latest Eeveelution! We haven’t had a new Eevee since Leafeon and Glaceon were revealed in Diamond and Pearl, so we’re about due. Sylveon‘s type hasn’t been confirmed yet, but many people are leaning toward Flying, because of the Sylvian bird genus. Makes sense, right?
I’m cool with a Flying type, although I’d prefer something else.
As many of you know, before Generation IV, Special and Physical attacks were based on the type of move they were. Grass type moves were always Special attacks, Fighting type moves were always Physical attacks, etc. etc. Well, looking at it in these terms, each Eevee, so far, has been a Special type. Water, Electric, Fire, Psychic, Dark, Grass, and Ice. The only Special type not used:
Dragon.
So why not complete the cycle and create a Dragon type Eevee? It would finish the pattern they started back in Gen I, and give us one super awesome Pokémon.
For all we know, there could be more Eeveelutions in Pokémon X and Y, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for Dragon.
Going back to Gen I for a sec; let me tell you about my first Eevee.
Like most of us, choosing our first Eevee was a big deal. You only got one per game, and once you evolved it, you were stuck, so you had to choose wisely. I didn’t base my decision on anything scientific. I didn’t analyze my team, and choose who would be the best fit. No, I chose the one I thought was coolest, and that was Vaporeon. It was so different from the other two. For starters, it had a freakin’ flipper for a tail! Secondly, it had sweet Creature from the Black Lagoon frills on its head! I also thought it was the cutest. Overall, this thing was way cooler than Jolteon and Flareon combined!
My brother chose Jolteon. What a loser! At least it wasn’t Flareon! Oh, snap! BURN!
Vaporeon isn’t my favorite, though. That honor goes to Umbreon. Statistically speaking, it’s one of the best Walls/Annoyers in the game, and that’s the kind of Pokémon I like to play with. Really high Defenses, a great HP stat, and a fairly diverse movepool, make it the perfect Pokémon to pester your opponent. I also think it looks the coolest. Its sleek black and gold design just screams “luxury sports car”, although, it’s more of a luxury battle tank than anything.
Getting back to Sylveon; I’m not digging the design. It looks a little too weird for me. But that’s the way it goes, I guess. You can’t have every Eeveelution be super awesome. I just hope when they finally do release a Dragon type Eevee, it’s designed on something better than a leaf.
So, it’s time to sound off, loyal readers. What do you think Sylveon’s type is, do you like its design, and what other Eeveelutions do you want to see? Which one is your favorite and why? Who was your first!?
I know you all love Eevee, so I wan’t to see the comments blowing up!

Hilarious. I just think that Flying type would be the best for Sylveon, it is the best hypothesis. Thanks for the luls.

I think it could be normal type or the rumored light type maybe. I’d like to see a ground and flying type next. Espeon is definitely my favorite type, I just like the design and its shiny form and psychic type is one of my favorite types. The 1st eeveelution I had was FLAREON.

I like the design, for some reason they didn’t revealed it’s type, who knows, maybe the rumors about new types are real, we’ll have to wait.
I’d love to see a Steel type, “Sylveon”, silver…well maybe it’s a steel type after all, haha, though it doesn’t look like a steel type.
My favorite Eeveelution? that’s difficult, on Gen 1 I liked Jolteon, when they introduced Umbreon and Espeon, I liked Umbreon a lot.
on Gen 4 we got Leafeon and Glaceon, I prefered the latter.

Mawile doesn’t look like a Steel type either. It’s not out of the realm of possibility.
